1 Place to Stay – 2 Restaurants

Updated: Sep 5, 2022

Sunday is normally a day of rest and we are making the most of our accommodation.

View from our room at Maison Cabriere

In Franschhoek, we love staying at Maison Cabrière the welcome here is always very warm. Each room is beautifully furnished, and the toiletries are very special - lemon and verbena – top-notch!

You have the use of Netflix Youtube etc. - which, for this stay, has been an advantage as it is Autumn after all and therefore dark early - so a film after the evening meal has been a good option.

Pool at Maison Cabriere

A big plus for me is the beautiful swimming pool - we have been very lucky as the weather has been brilliant considering the time of year - so a few lengths and then read and relax in the sun is a perfect way to spend Sunday afternoon!

Maison Cabrière doesn’t provide any food - so we have planned to visit 2 restaurants today

A glass(or two!) of Pink

Lust Bistro is on the R44 in the Simondium area and is always busy mainly with locals - a lovely place to meet friends and family.

The bistro is at the entrance to Vrede en Lust wine estate and visitors are passing through for wine tasting at the vineyard - all arriving on the popular Franschhoek Wine Tram.

There is seating inside and out and a deli selling artisan bread. Sunday lunchtime is always a busy time and we sit at the last table for 2. We both chose the special of the day - a plate of 5 tapas with a glass of wine. The tapas were delicious but small and so we then topped up with a plate of Sri Lankan curry! Great food and wine as always.

On the stoop at French Connection

Dusk falls and we walk down the main road through Franschhoek (another plus for staying at Maison Cabrière is you are only 5 minutes away from many restaurants and shops) and we have booked a table on the stoop at French Connection. This popular restaurant has a lovely atmosphere and the food and wine choices are extensive.

We have eaten here many times over the past few years and have never been disappointed. We also have noticed that although Franschhoek is a tourist destination this restaurant's clientele includes many local residents and that has got to be a great recommendation!
