1 Vineyard - 2 Restaurants

Updated: Sep 5, 2022

Day 2 - 2022 wine buying trip

Wine tasting at Noble Hill

OK, today we visit Noble Hill Wine Estate - we are so lucky to have found this vineyard.

Why?

Kristopher, the winemaker, and owner here is passionate about his craft and making wines. His aim is not only to produce a quality product but to protect the environment and importantly to employ workers from the area.

Noble Hill over lockdown has worked very hard to become organic and is now waiting for their final inspection to obtain their organic certificate.

Also, another aim is to make wine that is a mix of old and new world styles. What do I mean?

To make the wines in a traditional way, firstly handpicking is essential and the end product is not outrageously high in alcohol - which means picking at the optimum time so the sugar levels are not too high and respect the grapes and use them at their best because of the lower alcohol. For example, Kristopher is planning that his red wines, in the future, will be more Northern Rhone in their profile than one would expect from a Southern Rhone red e.g. a Chateauneuf du Pape. Noble Hill wines therefore will be enjoyed without that awful morning after feeling!

Restaurants 2

Cosecha Restaurant @noblehill

Wine tasting and chat over at Noble Hill we then move on to lunch here at Cosecha restaurant which is the Mexican-themed restaurant on site.

If you visit take my advice - have the fresh Guacamole made at your table. This is the best I have ever tasted and you can have it made to your own specifications. I love chilli and so a little extra spice is added for me! I paired this with a glass of Noble Hill Viognier - a marriage made in heaven.

Tuk Tuk Microbrewery and Bar

OK, Tuk Tuk is normally a taxi service!

Tuk Tuk Microbrewery & Bar

But here in Franschhoek, it is a pub serving beers made on-site with many gins, and of course, South African wines!

They also sell tapas snacks but don’t be fooled - the tapas are enormous. We enjoyed samosas but after our lunch 2 portions were way too much. Not a problem, a doggy bag/box was provided for us to enjoy later!

Another perfect day on planet earth.
