Today we travel through Stellenbosch to Peter Falke Wine Estate.
This exclusive winery is nestled against the majestic slopes of the Helderberg Mountains. The Falke family has been doing business in South Africa since 1969. Peter Falke was born in Germany. His dream to own a farm came true when he acquired Groenvlei in 1995.
His wife, Danièle is French and an interior designer. Her taste and talent are expressed in the smallest details in the tasting room. This is where we sit today as it is raining!
Like the tasting room, the wines are exquisite and have won numerous prestigious awards over the past years, for good reason they are lovely.
We are at the winery today to taste the new vintages and place our order
We are often asked what is the origin of the names on the red range. All are Hawaiian names and are Peter and Danièle's, grandchildren. Apparently, there may be another grandchild's name to come. Watch this space to see what new wine will be added.
A new idea came out of our chat with Wim, the saleroom here has added a mixed case to the wines on sale, this gives the customer a chance to test other wines in the range and this introduction to new varieties persuades them to buy different wines from the range.
We will be trying this out in April on our return.
It is lunchtime and we enjoy a couple of mixed platters a speciality here. Normally we would be sipping their Rosé in the garden with the food but today the weather has let us down so we are in the beautiful tasting room enjoying a Kanoa with our meal.
Fabulous,
To see our range of Peter Falke wines
