2021
2021 has been another challenging year for everyone
At the beginning of the year, we became experts in Zoom tastings and were lucky to have Kristopher, the owner of Noble Hill winery, who joined us. The plan was he would give a short talk on the winemaking industry in the Cape, but he was still with us at 10:30 pm chatting with everyone who had dialled in from all around the UK.
In August we were joined by Guy Webber from Hill and Dale for a Pinotage masterclass. Both were great evenings, informative and fun!
In June we were able to start our wine and food pairing events and had a great Rosé summer lunch - the sun even shone!
We are sorry to say that we have been unsuccessful in buying wines from the EU - the extra costs of importations have made it impossible to buy wine at a sensible price and therefore our stocks are very low. The good news for Domaine Treloar lovers is we are able to buy their wines here in the UK and therefore we are fully stocked - long may that last!
We know how important it is to keep refreshing our list and have been able to source a small selection of wines from an Italian supplier. We are now pleased to be offering 6 quality wines from small boutique producers. Thank you to Matteo who joined us for a tasting evening to introduce the wines to our local clients.
Due to the restrictions, we have started hosting Gourmet private tasting events where you can sample wines with a menu of your choice designed to pair with each glass. Numbers are limited to 12 and prices start at £50 per person.

October we made the most of being able to fly to South Africa and visited most of our suppliers during our trip. We have added Muratie wines to our list, so it was great to go to the Muratie Wine Estate for the first time where we were welcomed by the owner Rijk Melck and Desmond the marketing manager. WOW, the history of winemaking at this estate goes back to the 1600s. We spent a great couple of hours tasting wines and learning more about this amazing winery.
We were so pleased to see in person that the industry in South Africa had survived the lockdown of 2020 and of course, everyone was feeling very positive as tourists had started visiting again. How sad that within 4 weeks everything had changed and flights again were cancelled!
2022
What will 2022 throw at us?
What the past few years have taught us is that you have to look at ways to diversify to keep both the business fresh and keep up with whatever is happening in the World!
We have found a great Company who are offering Champagne bottles with personalised labels CLICK HERE for full details of what's on offer from 'Say it Champers'. We love this idea and we are working on having a link on our site for you to order bottles for your special day!
2022 tasting event dates have now been published and we are taking bookings now.
Our next trip to South Africa is being planned for April and we will be looking for new vineyards to visit - please contact us if you have any recommendations.
