Today our update from the vineyards is from a beautiful vineyard in Southern France, Château Rouquette sur Mer where the vines look out onto the Mediterranean. The breezes from the sea blow through the vines helping to make the wines here very special
Here is the news in their own words of how they are surviving!
"Life at Rouquette has been reorganized!
The administrative staff worked from home until end of March, and then benefited from the temporary unemployment allowance. We are please to say that the two girls are now back and will share their time between office and vineyard, but at least, somebody is back to take calls… and with the heat (30 degrees announced the next few days) and the vegetation blooming, it is about time to enhance the presence in the vineyard.
François Boscary, his wife and son, stayed on the premises and everybody works in the vineyard and in the cellar.
The family members and the administrative staff replaced the usual seasonal temporary staff who cannot cross borderlines (3 of them returned to Quebec just before the quarantaine. And the others usually coming from Eastern Europe simply couldn’t come).
To maintain service and contact with its clientèle, the winery contacted by mail all its pivate customers with a « confinment offer » allowing to order and be delivered at home, which was a true success.
The « Caveau » was closed for a while, and opened again last week.
Now, Rouquette is specialist of the On-Trade and as long as the restaurants won’t be allowed to open again…. This part of the business has come to a stop.
The government allowed people to book hotels and B&B for the summer only last week.
We hope that tourism will not be affected too much this summer.
At this stage, the beach of Narbonne-plage is closed, but since the french citizens won’t be allowed to travel abroad this summer, they are likely to spend their holidays in France.
We cross fingers and hope that the Covid-19’s statistics at the end of the month will incite the government to authorize freedom, access to the beach, and travelling within France during the summer season."
