Exploring the Unique Flavours of South Africa 2024 - Lynx Wine Collection

Franschhoek wine route has many gems along the R45 but 2nd to none is the Lynx wine estate.

A quick visit today to Lynx Winery.

This vineyard was one of the first places we started buying from in 2011.

In that time there have been many changes. Today the estate is unrecognisable from our original visit.

The tasting room is the only area that remains the same but even in front of here there are sun chairs to relax in and not only drink your wine but drink in the stunning view of the perfectly straight lines of vines sitting yards in front of you.

Now the Estate has Guest accommodation, a new restaurant serving a la carte meals, and next to that is a smaller Bistro type of area where you can get a lighter meal.

They have also in the last few years welcomed the Franschhoek Wine Tram which has made the area very busy and there is always a buzz of people enjoying all areas.

Lynx has, because of the load-shedding problems they have here in South Africa, installed Solar panels. In theory, they now should be completely independent of the grid!

Today we are here to meet Pierre the winemaker - it was just a speedy chat as he is not only in the middle of harvesting the grapes but for some unknown reason the solar panels are not working - which of course is a complete nightmare as without electricity everything comes to a sudden halt.

This is only a temporary problem but very frustrating for everyone concerned. We were able to taste this year's vintages and the good news is the wines are still of extremely high quality and taste delicious!!
